2 yards - the tallest midget

December 4th, 2007 by Stephen

*Disclaimer: Knob Creek Whiskey ruined all rational thought*

You know what?

F*uck those guys. We came so close to winning — and I had a sneaking suspicion that we wouldn’t win — but then we fall 2 yards shy. Stupid salt in the wound ‘n stuff…

The sad thing? It all came down to Rex Ryan calling a time out. I’d expect it from Billick — but Ryan? The defense stopped the Patriots — dropped ‘em for a loss, even. Argh.

I will say this, though - this was the best Ravens game since the Super Bowl season I’ve ever seen them play. Step for step, they had the Patriots painted in to a corner. The best team in the league? I don’t think so. Look at the numbers — this was an ugly win. Just what you’d expect when the favorites rolled into M&T.

I do want to say this, though - Brian Billick was NOT outcoached. I thought that would be the intangible, but it wasn’t. The intangible happened to be the Patriots beating the hell out of the last 6 minutes of the game on both sides of the ball. Bastards.

Am I disappointed? At first blush, yes. But really, no. The Patriots are the über team. And I fully expect the Steelers to destroy them next week. But to come up 2 yards shy of a win? I wouldn’t have even thought it would be possible with this year’s team. 5 more seconds is a tie. 10 more seconds is a win. This game destroyed me — more on this one tomorrow. I’m smashed on Knob Creek. This was just one of those games…

Kudos are in order.  This was the best game I’ve seen since the Super Bowl season.

You know what? If Willis McGahee — 1,000+ yards on the season and all — can throw a hurtin’ on the Pats, I think Willie Parker can, too. And I shudder to think that I’ll be rootin’ for the Steelers next week.

I need a shower.

Can someone sign me up on the liver replacement list? And send me more booze? Irrational thoughts: What a disaster!

Great great game. Ravens proved they are so much better than this season has shown. New England struggling with injuries did what they had to do. I am not mad at them. Ryan’s call and the penalty afterwards were bad moves and led to the defeat.

  2. rhett Says:

this was the most fixed game in the history of sports. i’m sick of this.

  3. Harry Onara, Red Sox & Patriots fan Says:

The Pats ARE the best team in the league. Everyone comes at them EVERY week with their ’superbowl’ game in hand and, you can’t deny it, the Patriots STILL WIN. And relative to the last commenter, he sould be kissing the Refs for letting Baltimore get away with so many pass interferences. The reason they had so many penalties was because they were hacking the oppposing team all night.

The last 6 minutes of the game should show you what separates the great teams from the also-rans. And this year, the Ravens are among the also-rans…

  4. thinng Says:

    @ Harry
the obvious comments of a patriots fan…

I am neither a Pats fan or a Ravens fan but I know football. Moss runs directly into a D back and the Ravens are flagged for illegal contact ?>?”:? B.S. …after that I will agree with the ensuing interference call on 4th down that gave the Pats a first. But the play that should have been reviewed was Gafneys touchdown. He is bobbling the ball ! He does not have full posession in bounds. The refs sucked tonight. The Browns were screwed also. I only ask that they get it right. Your comments are that of a delusional pats fan. Sports Center and NFL network won’t even show the replay without cropping out the ball and Gafneys hands.

  5. Stephen Says:

Gotta love those bandwagon Pats fans who are too young to remember how the Patriots beat the Rams in the Super Bowl - by mugging d-backs, hand-checking and pushing off for separation. It’s a joke how much the New England O-Line holds and you want to talk about unfair? Typical. It’s a good thing Antwan Barnes sacked Brady because there wasn’t a flag thrown. Another modern day mugging from the queens of New England.

If I’m a New England fan, I’m worried that I almost got beat two weeks in a row by backup quarterbacks and a solid ground attack. The fact that Kyle Fucking Boller - an ‘also-ran’ - nearly shattered a collective wet dream makes me giddy.

  6. whit Says:

Message to Ray Lewis, you made Sean Taylor very sad last night, in his grave. You WERE playing for him right? You said so in your well orchestrated, in front of the camera pre-game “thug hug” with the other gangsta/ defenders. Maybe you murdered him Ray, you did it before and got away with it. Anyways, the forced (almost) tears before the game were pretty sweet too. You got beat, now you can cry for real. Ravens don’t belong on the same field with the Patriots Dynasty!!!

  7. Stephen Says:

@ Whit: Can I point out that the Patriots almost got beat two weeks in a row by backup quarterbacks?

    You guys are classless idiots.

Although, I’m surprised that you know so much about football… y’know, since you’ve only been following it for 12 games along with the rest of the Patriots bandwagon…

  8. whit Says:

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! 6 losses in a row now Stevie-boy!

  9. whit Says:

(I put this into Gizoogle so even Ray Lewis can understand it)

Message ta Ray Lewis, you made Sean Taylor very sad last night, in his grave. You WERE clockin’ fo` him right? You said so in yo well orchestrated, in front of tha camera pre-game “thug hug” wit tha baller gangsta/ defenda. Maybe you murdered him Rizzy you did it before n gots away wit it paper’d up. Anyways, tha forced (almost) tears before tha gizzy were pretty sweet too. You gots beat, now you can cry fo` real. Ravens don’t belong on tha same field wit tha Patriots Dynasty!!!

  10. Stephen Says:

    @ Whit:

(I put this into plain English so you could understand it)

The Patriots barely won against a team that lost 5 in a row who started a backup quarterback and was without an All-Pro TE (aka, the key cog in the Ravens offense).

Congratulations are in order. You may be the king of the classless idiots.

  11. NFL fan Says:

Football fans should just appreciate a great game. A sore bunch of winners and losers out here. It was hard fought..it wasn’t the refs etc. The timeout mistake will be talked about for years by fans. Other than that the Ravens played a smart. The guy had two hands on the ball for the last touchdown. No argument there. That is called the same way every week, every year. Too many people out here cheering against teams instead of wanting good football. This was a great freezing weather, windy game. I’m neutral on this game and can just take it for what it was. Give the Ravens credit for all but 1 minute of smart football. Give the Patriots credit for being injured but still finding a way to win on the road. The hail mary wouldn’t have counted had the Ravens scored. The ref didn’t throw the flag because he didn’t have to. Had the Ravens scored the replay showed MAJOR pass interference on the offense.

  12. NFL fan Says:

I have seen the replays 3 times. A big key was Brady running for the first down to lead to that last series of downs. He shouldn’t have been allowed to do that and it was a defensive gamble that helped cost the game.

  13. whit Says:

Ed Reed fumbling after that interception was disrespectful to Sean Taylor’s memory.

  14. amy Says:

“NFL fan” is the smartest commenter here. What (s)he said.

  15. 2007PATS Says:

I am so tired of everyone complaining about the PATS. Not the best team? Why, because they did not win by 40pts? The Ravens couldn’t close out the game. The Pats hung around and you just knew Brady would find a way to win. Stop being sore losers and SHUT THE FUCK UP. Until we lose we are the best team.

  16. Stephen Says:

    @ 2007PATS:

    FTW.

    “SHUT THE FUCK UP”

    That’s hilarious.

  17. Michael Says:

Patriots played a tough game and I agree with NFL fan-great football game. Cheer for a good game and be grateful that blow outs are not the norm for even a great team can play badly. The difference is that somehow the Patriots always find a way to win in the end.

  18. Patsfan in SD Says:

Fact of the matter is that Brady had his worst game of the season and the Pats STILL put up 27 points and, more importantly, got the W. The Ravens (and their fans) should stop their whining. They had multiple chances to put the Pats away and didn’t, plain and simple.

  19. Stephen Says:

    @ Patsfan in SD:

True, we should stop our whining. However, it’s not every game the Ravens can hang more than 17.

Most importantly, it shows how dominant our defense can be. Brady threw under 50% completions and was pressured nearly the entire game by the Baltimore front four.

I’ll remember your bit about whining when the Patriots finally lose. Of course, the smug-ness of the fanbase will probably try to shrug it off by saying that “we needed to lose a game to get it out of the system”. You can’t have it both ways…

  20. TK Says:

Some of the Pats fans here make me fucking ashamed to be a Pats fan. Seriously. Show a little goddamn humility, would you? We just won a game BY THE SKIN OF OUR TEETH, and you’re going to talk smack? We were one poorly chosen time out from losing. Jesus. Shit on the Jets and Dolphins all you want, but when faced with real competition, show some fucking respect.

Ravens played an amazing game. And frankly, they deserved the win… until they basically imploded in the final minutes. That sucked to watch, even as a fan of the winning team. But Boller proved something today, though sadly, the defense, while immensely talented… a lack of discipline didn’t help. But they were A+ for the majority of the game.

Anyway. Sorry to make this so long. But I’m not one of the Pats fans who enjoys being a douchebag. And while I can understand why you’d hold the comments of 2007PATS, Whit and Harry Onara against the rest of us (and I don’t blame you), I hope we can at least agree on this: 1. That was probably one of the top 2 or 3 games we’ll see all year, and 2) 2007PATS, Whit and Harry Onara are colossal and unforgivable asshats. Please… for the greater good… just stop talking.

  21. Stephen Says:

    @TK:

    Thank you.

As far as I’m concerned, that was the best played game I’ve seen the Ravens play in the past 3 or 4 years.

  22. Boston Says:

Can you imagine the respect the Ravens players and Ravens organization would have recieved from NFL fans across the country had they acted like grown men accepting the fact that they lost? Instead they act like spoiled little chilldren blaming the loss on everything but their own actions. What a pathetic organization.

  23. whit Says:

i am not an asshat! you can’t prove that statement! meet me behind the gym at 3:00 and i’ll show you who is an asshat!

  24. Andrew Says:

Ray Lewis is a joke. Reminds me of a fifty-five year old hulk hogan screaming about hulkamania - and two or three of their players ruined what should have been a good loss for them - if there is such a thing.

  25. Stephen Says:

    @ Andrew:

I fail to see how Ray Lewis is a joke — the guy is only 2 years older than the average age of the Patriots LBs (30.0 years).

    Vrabel is 32.
    Bruschi is 34.
    Seau is 38.

So you want to get on him for being emotional during a football game? Apparently you’ve never seen him play before…

  26. whit Says:

andrew is right about gay lewis. he has a little bit of talent, and uses the fact that he once murdered someone to intimidate people. he dances like a homo, and obviously taught willis mcGAYhee how to do it too. they can both meet me at 3 o’clock behind the gym and i’ll give them The Big Dragon Beatdown!!!

  27. Stephen Says:

    @ Whit:

Ray Lewis is a first ballot hall of famer. He’s closing in on 2,000 tackles and 30 sacks for his career. Think about that. Those are huge numbers.

He’s also on pace for more than 220 tackles, which match his Defensive Player of the Year seasons. He’s one of only 6 LB’s in the 20/20 club (20 sacks, 20 INTs).

I love feeding trolls. Keep it up!

  28. whit Says:

he murdered someone, couldn’t muster fake tears during the moment of silence, talks too much in ebonics, and plays for a team that has lost 6 straight games. he’s a first ballot thug.

  29. Stephen Says:

    @ Whit:

He actually bypassed the voting process.

  30. TK Says:

    [sigh]

Whit, if you are over 18 years old, I’ll be fucking stunned. Ray Lewis is probably one of my least favorite players in the NFL. I think he’s a jackass, I think he craves attention and I think his past is morally suspect (at best).

All of that said, he’s probably one of the 10 or 15 best linebackers in history.

You know, I don’t know why I’m bothering responding to a racist, homophobic blowhard. You’re not going to change. Maybe when you get older, I dunno.

You see what you’ve made me do, Whit? You’ve made me defend the Ravens, a team I hate, on their own site. LOOK WHAT YOU HAVE MADE ME DO!

  31. whit Says:

TK??? Are you kidding me? Is this THE KARLA? I mean we’re talkin’ bout LO-gistics here!

  32. Andrew Says:

Hulk Hogan also had a great stats - but by the end of his career, he was a joke. Just like Ray Lewis now. Good linebacker - but a clown none-the-less.

  33. whit Says:

good point andrew. also worth noting that hulk hogan has a hot daughter. unsure about lewis’ kids…

  34. Stephen Says:

    @ Andrew:

Do you think before posting comments? Or are you like Whit?

    … or are you whit?

Ray Lewis is playing at a Pro Bowl level this season. Having only seen one Ravens game, how can you make such a baseless claim?

Based on one game, I’d say that Adalius Thomas has been a bust for the Patriots, even though I know better.

  35. Andrew Says:

You’re missing the point, i never said he wasn’t a good player - I said, or meant to say, his antics of dancing around, woofing like a dog, pretending to cry during the moment of silence, huddling with the Miami guys, and talking nonsense about winning for Sean Taylor make him a joke… That stuff was fine early in his career, but he’s got to give it up at this point… Nothing to do with Monday night - he dances like a monkey every game, and it’s a joke. And if Sean Taylor is somehow watching from up above - i’ve got $20 says he couldn’t give a crap about Baltimore, or how those three guys played last night.

  36. whit Says:

exactly, most of those guys are much more interested in weed and strippers. sean taylor is probably hanging out with Tupac right now!

  37. Leeroy J Says:

whit, what the hell was with the “Lo-gistics” comment?

  38. whit Says:

oh yeah, you and ray lewis would call it “YO-gistics”

  39. whit Says:

c’mon stephen, where are you? i was behind the gym at 3 you chickenshit.

TK- stop imitating TK, she is right beside me, and can whip your scrawny ass!

Hey, the truth came out this week - the Pats won and the Raven lost.
    Again.
Just like last week and just like next week as well.

The Pats are 13-0 and because they EARNED it. Your 2 yards short is just that - 2 yards short. A day late and a dollar short. Tell your grandkids but stop wasting my time with it…
